Code of Conduct

Code of Conduct

The Stuart Drama Conference seeks to bring together a diverse group of academics, students, and practitioners from the UK and beyond to facilitate collaboration across disciplinary and geographic boundaries. We strive to uphold a sense of community by maintaining a respectful environment for intellectual exchange.

The Stuart Drama Conference is committed to ensuring equality of opportunity and experience for all participants, and is informed by Liverpool John Moores University’s Equality and Diversity Policy. We condemn and will not tolerate behaviour that demeans, endangers, or threatens an individual based on their:

  • age

  • disability

  • gender

  • marital status

  • pregnancy and maternity

  • race

  • religion or belief

  • sex

  • sexual orientation

The organising committee take seriously any instances of harassment or disrespectful behaviour in any of our activities or events. Harassment and disrespectful behaviour can take many different forms (manifested verbally, non-verbally, through physical actions, or digitally) and can include incidents such as: crude behaviour; unwanted physical contact or attention (sexual or otherwise); offensive gestures, statements, or jokes; dismissive or demeaning forms of address; threats; coercion. We would encourage anyone who is affected by any such behaviour to make it known to whichever member of the organising committee the individual would feel comfortable approaching. The organising committee reserves the right to take action against anyone who breaches our Code of Conduct, including (but not limited to) barring offenders from subsequent events and activities.

Safeguarding will also operate in the use of social media at the Stuart Drama conference. While we acknowledge that engagement with social media enables users to share content in an accessible way to a wider audience, we are also keen that conference participants’ privacy and intellectual property are protected. Therefore, the posting of content online during the conference and its related activities (whether that be personal commentary, or the upload of audio/video/photographs) must have the explicit permission and approval of the presenters/participants first. The social media handle(s) of the subject(s) should be included in every post to make them easily identifiable and give them due credit for their work. All other types of communications must also be shared with the named person. More information can be found in our Guidelines for Social Media at the Stuart Drama Conference.

The Stuart Drama Conference seeks to celebrate the diversity of our field. We aim for the conference to be an intellectually stimulating and enjoyable experience for all participants. Please help us to achieve this.
